The Moment He Knew He Needed To Change

Although he was over 600 pounds, Stewart didn't realize he had a problem with his weight until a long-time friend brought it to his attention. "I hadn't seen him in ten years, and when I did, he asked me, 'Man, did you give up on life?'" Stewart recalled.

That hit Stewart hard. He took a wait in the mirror and realized that the out-of-control portions, the sugary drinks, and the fact that he barely left the house had added up without him realizing. "I had basically let myself go," he said.

Meeting With the Doctor

Stewart'due south initial meeting with the doctor didn't go as he'd hoped — he was diagnosed with sleep apnea, hypertension, and diabetes, and was put on medication for the latter two. The surgery shrunk Stewart's stomach, drastically decreasing his ambition and helping him lose an additional 125 pounds, bringing his weight downwardly to 498 pounds — a total loss of 175 pounds so far.

"He ran blood tests and took me off the medications I was taking for diabetes and hypertension," he said. "He told me I didn't have those things anymore, and I was shocked.
